What makes social media different to traditional
media, like newsletters and flyers?
Social media as it’s name suggests is ‘social’, enabling the
following:
- Participation: People who are interested in what you
have to say can get involved and take part. - Openness: Sharing of information and transparency.
- Conversation: Unlike paper newsletters for example,
conversations, comments and meaningful feedback can
take place. - Collaboration: Involvement of others to create
resources or share a common theme together. - Community building: Communities can form quickly
around a particular subject or topic area. - Connectivity: Linking to other websites and resources.
Social media has gained popularity in the non-profit sectors as little technical knowledge, nor cost is needed to create a site or share materials with others.
