Social media is a public platform and much of what you put out on the web will be able to be searched by anyone using search engines like Google. This is important to understand, especially if you are planning on using social media for your own organisation.
It helps some non-profits to include a section on social media to their communications strategy, to help them to:
- define the purpose
- decide why, how and what they will communicate
- the process they will use to find and identify the right tools and methods to use
- how to get the ‘voice of the organisation’ in the right context.
Having a disgruntled member of staff or volunteer blogging
openly may not spread the best message about the work of
your organisation!
